Regulatory Context
The rules for selling routers in the U.S. changed.
In March 2026 the FCC restricted which routers may be sold in the United States. If your business is buying network hardware this year, it is worth knowing where the equipment stands.

The Covered List expanded
The FCC added routers produced in foreign countries to its Covered List, except those granted Conditional Approval by the Department of War or the Department of Homeland Security.
The stated reason
National security and cybersecurity
The Commission stated that foreign-produced routers present national-security and cybersecurity risks. Equipment already in service is not made unlawful to own or use.

Gryphon’s listing was published
The FCC published a Conditional Approval for Gryphon Safety Online, Inc.’s Parental Control WiFi Router, with a published approval period running through January 10, 2028.
The FCC described this determination as finding that the listed device does not pose the national-security risks underlying the Covered List designation.
